Level 2: BCS MTP Specialist (Operations)
Below are details of the skills that must be demonstrated in
the examination in order to succeed at this level, and the prerequisite
education and/or experience expected.
Examination
The examination will be conducted over one day in invigilated test conditions.
The disciplines and knowledge tested will comprise:
- z/OS operations
- JES2 - operations & features (for JES2 users)
- JES3 - operations & features (for JES3 users)
- Parallel sysplex operations (optional)
- DB2 - DB2 for z/OS operations (optional)
- CONNECT:Direct (optional)
Skills demonstrated
In order to qualify at this stage candidates will be expected to:
demonstrate an understanding of z/OS operator commands and features by:
- describing the IPL process
- issuing z/OS commands and understanding the effects
- understanding the effects of CHNGDUMP, CONFIG, DEVSERV, DISPLAY, MODIFY, VARY, SET, RESET and other z/OS commands
- understanding the Operator Console, Command Groups, Routing Codes and Message Levels
- understanding the z/OS System address spaces and Started Tasks
- controlling the jobs within z/OS
- understanding how to control I/O devices
(for JES2 users) demonstrate an understanding of JES2 operator commands and features by:
- describing how JES2 relates to z/OS
- controlling the start and stop processes of JES2
- describing the JES2 functions and facilities
- dynamically changing JES2 parameters
- customising JES2 to your specific requirements
- controlling Job management
- controlling JES2 devices
- controlling the Spool Offload facility
- managing RJE and NJE environments
(for JES3 users) demonstrate an understanding of JES3 Operations by:
- describing how JES3 relates to z/OS
- controlling the start and stop processes of JES3
- describing the JES3 functions and facilities
- changing JES3 parameters
- customising JES3 to your specific requirements
- controlling Job management
- controlling JES3 devices
- setting up and managing the RJP and NJE environments.
(optional) Demonstrate an understanding of Parallel Sysplex Operations by answering questions on:
- Basic & Parallel Sysplex terminology
- XCF & XES
- Required components
- D XCF components
- Couple dataset requirements
- Route command
- SETXCF command
- VARY XCF command
- VARY WLM command
- DISPLAY XCF command
- Analysing output from D XCF command
(optional) demonstrate a basic understanding of DB2 Operations by:
- being able to take the actions needed for startup, normal operations and shutdown of DB2 systems
- being able to take the actions required during startup following an abnormal termination
- describing the need for deferred restart and the effect it has on the DB2 system and data
- describing the need for conditional restart and the effect it will have
- setting up a deferred or conditional restart
- describing the effect conditional restart is likely to have on data integrity
- analyse any outstanding work following a conditional or deferred restart and take the actions required to complete it.
(optional) demonstrate an understanding of Connect:Direct by:
- describing the major functions of CONNECT:Direct
- explaining the need for CONNECT:Direct in an Enterprise Network
- describinging the basic concepts of the CONNECT:Direct Process language
- using CONNECT:Direct in a z/OS environment.
Prerequisite knowledge/experience
Candidates for the Level 2 BCS Mainframe Technology Professional certification will be expected to have at least three years of experience in a mainframe-based data centre and will have Level 1 BCS Mainframe Technology Professional certification.
