Level 3: BCS MTP Consultant (Data Storage)
Below are details of the skills that must be demonstrated in
the examination in order to succeed at this level, and the prerequisite
education and/or experience expected.
Examination
The examination will be conducted over one day in invigilated test conditions.
The disciplines and knowledge tested will comprise:
- The candidates' experience of working with HSM & SMS
- Knowledge in disaster recovery planning for data
- Knowledge in using HCD to define an I/O configuration
- z/OS I/O performance - knowledge of theory and practical expertise
Skills demonstrated
In order to qualify at this stage candidates will be expected to:
demonstrate expertise in managing SMS by:
- showing an in-depth knowledge and practical expertise working with SMS
- being able to audit and optimise the SMS environment
- being able to describe a disaster recovery plan for an installation
demonstrate an in depth practical knowledge in HSM by:
- showing an in-depth knowledge and practical expertise working with HSM
- utilising FIXCDS and PATCH commands to modify HSM
- being able to tune an HSM environment
demonstrate an ability to define an I/O configuration by using HCD
demonstrate an ability to optimise I/O performance by:
- using the latest technology and techniques to optimise I/O performance
- understanding what to monitor with regards to I/O performance
- understanding how to monitor with regards to I/O performance
Prerequisite knowledge/experience
Candidates for the Level 3 BCS Mainframe Technology Professional (Data Storage) certification will have at least four years of experience in a mainframe-based data centre and will have Level 2 BCS Mainframe Technology Professional (Data Storage) certification, or have the equivalent experience.
