What is BCS MTP?

The BCS MTP programme comprises a series of exams and qualifications that assess and benchmark skills and capabilities within the mainframe environment.

The examinations are run over one or two days, in strict exam conditions. In each exam the various topics are tested at three levels: multiple choice questions, complex questions and practical sessions, working on a live z/OS system.

Using a web-based interface questions are randomly selected from a ‘bank’ of questions for each candidate. This system is highly secure and ensures that candidates taking similar tests and sat nearby will receive different questions.

The exams are written by leading industry experts with many years of experience working in mainframe-based computing environments across the world. Each exam is carefully peerreviewed by experts to ensure the levels and the areas covered are appropriate.

The programme is totally customer-led, and through the GuideSHARE network across the world, particularly in Asia, Europe, USA and Australia, feedback on the exams is ensuring the needs of the world’s mainframe users are met.

The origins of BCS MTP

These qualifications were developed following demand from major UK and US banks, all of whom are major users of IBM mainframe technology. They required a structured exam path for their employees in order to assess their ongoing development and to determine recruitment and promotion globally.

The certifications are independent of vendors, allowing them to be globally accepted and credible.

BCS working in partnership with RSM Technology, has developed a set of qualifications and exams across the mainframe environment that enables structured career paths to be mapped and tracked

These qualifications provide a valuable skills differentiator, validating ongoing customer confidence in the skills of our mainframe technicians.
